The Jacula Family

To Whom It May Concern,

My husband and I have two sons, aged 2 years old and 5 months old, and are anxious for Cheryl Peyton’s Little Start daycare centre to begin operating, particularly for the 24/7 care option.

As my husband and I are both serving military members, standard daycare hours (approximately 7am to 6pm) would often be insufficient for our needs as it is very possible that one of us could be away from CFB Borden on temporary duty while the other is required to be at work outside of the standard daycare hours. With no family locally, we currently would need to ask family to come to Barrie to look after our sons to bridge the gap. Little Start’s extended care hours would provide a much-needed service for us, as well as many other serving military members from CFB Borden.

While many military members work Mon-Fri within the standard daycare hours, there are numerous service personnel on base who do not. Due to the high tempo at the base, some organizations work “non-standard” hours to accomplish their mission. Consequently, there are parents working 10-hour days, with a four days on/four days off schedule. As a result of the lack of a local daycare provider who can provide care for this schedule, I know a single parent who has had to send her child out of province to live with her parents. No doubt there are other families who would make use of a daycare centre with extended hours.

We very much look forward to sending our children to Little Start and to being able to benefit from the flexibility their extended hours care will provide us with.

Thank you,

The Jacula Family
